Yes, Georgia is good for a family holiday if you plan around the long drives and the summer heat. Tbilisi has a cable car up to Narikala fortress and a funicular up to Mtatsminda Park, the amusement park on the hill above the city. Kakheti, east of the capital, has vineyards, cellars and the walled hill town of Sighnaghi. Kazbegi, to the north, puts you under Mount Kazbek, with cooler days and Gergeti Trinity Church on the hill above the town.

How long are the drives?
From Tbilisi, Kakheti is about 1.5 to 2 hours by road, Kazbegi about 3 to 3.5 hours without stops, and Mestia in Svaneti about 8 to 9 hours. Mtskheta, the old capital, is only about 25 kilometres north of the city. With children, split anything longer than half a day into two, with a night on the way, and build in a day with no driving every few days.

Can British families visit Georgia without a visa?
Yes. The UK government’s travel advice, checked 24 September 2026, says British citizens can visit Georgia without a visa for up to one year. Each passport must be valid for the whole stay.
Do children need anything extra to enter Georgia?
Yes, each child needs their own valid passport and insurance cover. Every visitor needs health and accident cover of at least 30,000 lari for the whole stay, and the UK advice says some families have reported being refused entry because a child’s passport photo no longer matched how the child looks now (gov.uk, checked 24 September 2026). Renew an old passport before you travel.
