What is the best food tour in Tbilisi?

The best food tour in Tbilisi for a first visit is the Sololaki walk by Real Georgia Tours. It spends three and a half unhurried hours at everyday places locals use, from an office workers’ diner to natural wine in an old family house, and its guide tells you what to order for the rest of your stay. The Silk Road feast wins if you have a whole day and want a sit-down supra; the street food walk wins if you want hotel pickup and an hour or two.

    • Homestyle dishes and natural wine in a restaurant built inside an old Sololaki family house.
    • A slow 1.5 km with long sit-downs and nine bites along the way, so it replaces a meal.
    • Private on any day: about £132 (175 USD) for one alone, falling to about £42 (55 USD) each for six.

    Skip it if

Private, small-group or on your own?

A small group is the cheapest way onto the Sololaki walk, but it runs only on Saturdays; a private walk suits families, anyone with a diet to plan and groups of four or more, and eating on your own works once you know the dishes. A food tour is one of the easiest hand-picked experiences to fit into a first day in Tbilisi.

Is a private food tour worth it in Tbilisi?

Yes, for a family, a group of four or more, or anyone with a diet to plan. The private Sololaki walk runs on any day and costs about £47 (62.50 USD) each for four, against about £38 (50 USD) on the Saturday shared walk; for two it costs twice as much, and for one alone more than three times.

Can you eat your way round Tbilisi without a tour?

Yes. Every dish below is on ordinary Tbilisi menus, so you can order them yourself once you know their names. A tour adds the order of the day, someone to explain each dish and the places you would not find alone.

What will you eat on a Tbilisi food tour?

You eat khinkali on all three picks, and most add cheese breads, walnut dishes, churchkhela and wine or chacha; the Silk Road feast adds a full sit-down supra. To learn to make khinkali and khachapuri yourself, book a cooking class in Tbilisi instead.

Which neighbourhood, and what time of day?

Two of the walks stay in the old town and Sololaki, on the slope below Mtatsminda, and the street food walk offers hotel pickup; start times run from 10:00 to 19:00, so a walk can be your lunch or your dinner.

Where does each walk go?

The Sololaki walk covers about 1.5 km of Sololaki’s backstreets. The Silk Road feast starts by the hot springs in the oldest part of the city, where the bath district of Abanotubani sits at the foot of Narikala fortress, and walks about 2.5 km through the Orbeliani district to Sololaki; a private room at the sulphur baths is one way to end a day there. The street food walk offers hotel pickup, and its itinerary lists a courtyard, a bakery and two cafés; the stops can change with the time slot and the season.

Lunchtime or evening?

For lunch, take the Silk Road feast, which starts at 10:00 and lasts about seven hours, or the Sololaki walk from 13:00. For dinner, book a private Sololaki walk with a late start, up to 18:00, or a street food walk, which starts on the hour until 19:00.

Food tours for vegetarians, vegans and other diets

Vegetarians do well on the Sololaki walk and the Silk Road feast, where most stops have a meat-free dish; vegans taste fewer dishes, because cheese is in so much Georgian food. Tell the operator when you book.

Can vegans join a Tbilisi food tour?

Yes, with fewer dishes. Real Georgia Tours welcomes vegans on the Sololaki walk but says the choice is narrower. Culinary Backstreets says full vegan menus are difficult on the Silk Road feast and asks you to write before booking.

What about allergies, halal and kosher?

Ask before you pay. The Sololaki walk cannot offer halal or kosher menus, and because it eats in small local kitchens it cannot promise safety from cross-contamination for a severe allergy. Culinary Backstreets asks for allergy details at least 48 hours before the walk.

Tbilisi food tour questions

How long does a Tbilisi food tour take?

A Tbilisi food tour takes from one hour to a whole day. The street food walk runs for one, two or three hours, the Sololaki walk for three and a half, and the Silk Road feast for about seven.

Can non-drinkers join a food tour?

Yes. On the Sololaki walk the alcohol stops can be skipped or swapped for soft drinks, and the street food walk pours Georgian lemonade beside its glass of wine or beer.

Should you eat before a Tbilisi food tour?

No, arrive hungry. Real Georgia Tours says its tastings add up to a large, heavy meal, and Culinary Backstreets makes nine to twelve eating stops.

Can children join a food tour in Tbilisi?

Yes. The Silk Road feast welcomes children, at half price for 12 and under and about £19 (25 USD) for 6 and under. Real Georgia Tours welcomes children on private Sololaki walks, and the street food walk takes anyone under 18 only on a private booking.

How we picked

We compared the Tbilisi food tours sold on GetYourGuide with walks that operators sell direct, and checked every price, start time, meeting point and cancellation term on the booking pages on 29 September 2026. The test for each pick was what you eat and where, how many people share the walk, how long it lasts and what the price leaves out.
